Julian Hall's USMNT call-up signals a significant youth movement for the squad

Red Bull New York forward Julian Hall, 18, is slated for inclusion in the upcoming United States men's national team squad, as confirmed by CBS Sports sources, making him one of several new faces set to join a USMNT undergoing a significant generational shift. The call-up represents a pivotal moment for the academy product, who has previously represented the U.S. at the U-15 and U-17 levels.

Hall has demonstrated considerable promise this season for RBNY, tallying 12 goals and three assists across 27 appearances in all competitions. While eligible to represent Poland through his mother, his inclusion in these friendlies would not cap-tie him to the USMNT under FIFA regulations, which only apply after playing in official competitions.

New talent floods the USMNT roster for fall friendlies

Hall will be joined by his Red Bull New York teammate Adri Mehmeti, a selection previously reported by Fox Sports. Additionally, sources indicate that Philadelphia Union prospects Cavan Sullivan and Neil Pierre are also expected to be on the roster. ESPN initially broke the news of Sullivan's call-up, while Yahoo Sports was the first to report Pierre's selection.

Manager Pochettino indicated a 26-player squad for these fall friendlies, including four goalkeepers, with a clear focus on youth. Other young players reportedly in line for a call-up include goalkeeper Diego Kochen, defenders Peyton Miller and Frankie Westfield, midfielders Matias Albert and Brooklyn Raines, and forwards Zavier Gozo and Justin Ellis. All these players are 21 years old or younger. Goalkeeper Brian Schwake, 25, is also a candidate for his initial cap.

Key veterans return as others focus on fitness

Veteran players are also expected to feature, with goalkeeper Matt Freese, who started for the USMNT at this summer's World Cup, and midfielder Yunus Musah, a starter in 2022, anticipated to be named to the roster when Pochettino officially announces it on Thursday. This blend of experience and new talent aligns with Pochettino's strategy.

Christian Pulisic, a star attacker, is unlikely to be included as he continues his recovery from an injury sustained at the World Cup, a microfracture in his leg. Pulisic has recently made two substitute appearances for AC Milan, including an assist in a 2-2 draw with Lazio on Saturday, as he works back to full fitness.

Pochettino recently described these upcoming friendlies as a "new start" for the USMNT, hinting at the inclusion of numerous uncapped players as the team embarks on the qualification cycle for the 2030 World Cup. He noted a broad player pool of around 100 individuals, reflecting a generation of exceptionally talented American soccer players.
